Mechanical Drawing Symbols and Notes Handbook
A five-page handbook for engineers who both read other people's drawings and issue their own, especially when Japanese drawings are involved. The first three tables are for reading: dimension symbols (φ, R, C, t, SR, S⌀, □, reference dimensions) with their Japanese terms and readings, nineteen machining notes commonly seen on Japanese drawings (面取り, バリ取り, 座ぐり, 皿もみ, キリ, タップ, 貫通, 止まり and more), and the three ways of writing a dimensional tolerance. The next five are for issuing: the four families of geometric tolerance and when a datum is needed, the four steps for reading a feature control frame, drawing and tolerance vocabulary in Japanese, the sixteen fields of a 表題欄 title block, and twelve common representation rules covering repeated hole patterns, symmetric parts, straightness, flatness, keyways and revision blocks. Four tables cover welding: the six parts of a weld symbol, the arrow-side and other-side convention under ISO 2553 and JIS Z 3021, six basic weld types, and the six items a callout must carry.
