Technical Japanese #24 — Reading a QC Process Control Table (QC工程表)
The QC工程表 lists every step of a Japanese line together with the item checked, the standard, the frequency and the person responsible. Anyone working in 品質 or 生産技術 has to read it and fill it in correctly. This post goes column by column.
Core vocabulary of the QC工程表
| Japanese | Reading | Meaning | Where / example | Note |
|---|
| QC工程表 | QC こうていひょう QC kōteihyō | QC process chart | — | The chart itself |
| 工程 | こうてい kōtei | process step | 工程番号 | A production step |
| 工程No. | こうていナンバー kōtei nanbā | step number | 10, 20, 30 | Numbered in tens |
| 工程名 | こうていめい kōteimei | step name | 切断・加工 | Name of the step |
| 管理項目 | かんりこうもく kanri kōmoku | control item | 寸法・外観 | What gets checked |
| 管理基準 | かんりきじゅん kanri kijun | control standard | 20±0.1 | The pass threshold |
| 検査方法 | けんさほうほう kensa hōhō | inspection method | ノギス | How it is measured |
| 頻度 | ひんど hindo | frequency | 全数 / 抜取 | How often, how many |
| 全数 | ぜんすう zensū | every piece | 全数検査 | 100% inspection |
| 抜取 | ぬきとり nukitori | sampling | 抜取検査 | Sampling |
| 担当 | たんとう tantō | person in charge | 作業者 / 検査員 | Who does it |
| 作業者 | さぎょうしゃ sagyōsha | operator | — | Operator |
| 検査員 | けんさいん kensain | inspector | — | Inspector |
| 記録 | きろく kiroku | record | 記録用紙 | The log |
| 異常処置 | いじょうしょち ijō shochi | action on abnormality | ライン停止 | What to do when it fails |
| 設備・治具 | せつび・じぐ setsubi / jigu | equipment and jigs | 使用機器 | Machine and fixture used |
Reading one row
A row answers five questions: which step, what is checked, against what standard, measured with what, and by whom at what frequency.
工程30 「フライス加工」/管理項目「寸法A」/管理基準「50±0.1」/検査方法「ノギス」/頻度「抜取 n=5」/担当「検査員」
Which reads: at step 30, milling, check dimension A against 50±0.1, measure with a caliper, sample five pieces, inspector responsible.
Filling in the table and the record sheet
- 記録 — enter the actual measured value on the 記録用紙. Do not write a bare "OK" where the column asks for a number.
- 判定 — 合格 for pass, 不合格 for fail. Where a 限度見本 exists, compare against the sample.
- 異常処置 — when a value goes outside 管理基準, follow this column. Usually it means stop and report, not carry on.
Phrases by situation
Asking and confirming
- この工程の管理項目は何ですか。 — What is the control item for this step?
- 全数検査ですか、抜取ですか。 — Is it 100% inspection or sampling?
- 異常が出たらどうしますか。 — What do we do if something goes out of range?
Reporting
- 工程30で寸法が基準オーバーです。 — At step 30 the dimension is over the standard.
Mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Why it hurts |
|---|
| Writing 判定 "OK" without the measured 記録 | The traceability is lost — nobody can reconstruct what was actually measured |
| Confusing 全数 with 抜取 | You inspect either too little or far more than the plan requires |
| Ignoring 異常処置 | Letting suspect parts run on instead of stopping and reporting as the table demands |
Read it, then act — quick self-check
A row reads: 管理項目「外観」/管理基準「キズ・バリなきこと」/頻度「全数」. What do you do?
<details><summary>Answer</summary>Check the appearance (外観) of every piece (全数), against the criterion of no scratches (キズ) and no burrs (バリ). Not a sample — every one.</details>
The engineer says: 「基準オーバーが出たら、異常処置欄の通りにライン止めて報告して。」
<details><summary>Answer</summary>If a value goes over the standard, follow the 異常処置 column exactly: stop the line and report it.</details>
How MINATA helps
Do you need a QC工程表 and record sheets built or standardised in both Japanese and Vietnamese for a line? MINATA designs the process table, the control items and the abnormality flow to Japanese practice, in a form a Vietnamese team can actually run.
